At long last, the concluding book in the Inner Voices Series is here. I expect delivery from the publisher any day now, and it's already available as an e-book on SmashWords at Balance Restored
It's been a long process and I hope you've enjoyed the series. My next step is to get it better distributed. I'm looking at having it translated for foreign markets and would appreciate any comments you might have on this.
In the meantime, enjoy!

Book Four Almost Here!
The first draft of book four of the Inner Voices series has been completed, and it's gone to the editors. I'm well on track for having the published version ready for September. In fact, I've planned at book launch at the Ottawa Can-Con science fiction convention September 9 - 11, 2011. Here's the link to their page: www.can-con.org I'll also have a table there selling the complete set of books.
Hope to see you there!

Getting into publishing
Well, I've taken the plunge. After getting my books up on both Createspace and Smashwords, and doing the production for the chapbook the writing group I'm in has created, I decide to set up a web site to help others. The new site - www.alderbookpublishing.ca - is designed for authors who want small runs and/or e-books published. I'll be offering a wide range of services so that I can help anyone, from someone who can do most of the work themselves to those who have no experience in publishing.
In the meantime, work on novel four is progressing. I'm about two thirds done the first draft, so I'm still on schedule for getting the book in print by early fall.

Happy Easter
It's been an interesting couple of weeks. I finally got all the ebooks published with Smashwords, and I've even put up a new short story there. I'm giving the short story away free. eBook one is also free, and I've dropped the price for ebooks two and three to 99 cents to see if I can get more people to read them.
I discovered a couple of interesting things this last week while searching to see where the books are online. There's a used copy for sale in England, and a company in New Zealand that is offering my books for sale online there. I think that's neat.
I've been busy this weekend working on book four and it's coming along. Not nearly as fast as I'd like, but then that's writing! LOL

E-book update
Book two is now available. I've very impressed with SmashWords. I had 119 downloads of the first book, but most of those were free. I decided to put a price of $2.99 for the downloads because I want to build up a customer base I can go to an agent with. Five hundred people who paid for the books carries a lot more weight than two thousand free downloads. And I do want to have the writing be my main career.
Book three will be available later in the week, then I'll get back to working on book four. My target is to have it done by the fall. Wish me luck!

Book 1 e-book now available
Wow! They're fast. I submitted book one to Smashwords.com less than an hour ago, and the book is now available!
Time to start on books 2 and 3! LOL

E-versions soon available
I recently discovered SmashWords and will be using them to produce e-versions of the first three books. Once book four is done, it will be available as well.
Book four IS coming along. The past year has been rough, but I'm still working on it. I'll keep everyone up to date as things develop.
I won't be going to many science-fiction cons this year, just CanCon on Ottawa, but if anyone knows of others near Ottawa, please let me know.

Essay on "Spirituality in Science Fiction"
Hi all!
I've added an essay I wrote about "Spirituality in Science Fiction" to the web site. It was originally for a local magazine here in Ottawa called "Tone". The essay gives a brief summary of how the concept of spirituality has been a recurring thread in most forms of science fiction from even the earliest days.

Novel 2 Coming!!!
The second novel in the series is almost ready for publishing. I've reviewed the first proof and it looks good. We are working on the cover, which will follow the same layout as the first novel.
Novel two concludes this first story of the series and sets up the rest of the series.
Check the web site www.innervoices-novels.com for an excerpt from novel two and to pre-order it.

Update July 23, 2008
It's been a busy two months. I've had three signing sessions. The first was at a friends home-business open house. She kindly provided myself and two other authors with table space to sell our books. Although it wasn't a heavily attended evening, I did sell one copy and had a lot of fun.
The second signing was in Stittsville, a small town near here. My book publisher (Baico Books) arranged an afternoon of "Meet The Authors In The Park" outing. We provided our own tables and chairs and he looked after getting the advertising. Unfortunately (or fortunately from some perspectives) it was a hot day, so we didn't get a big turn-out. It was, however, successful enough that plans are being made to do it again next year, and I'm looking forward to that.
The big signing, however, was in Toronto at the Polaris 22 Science Fiction Convention. I had a table there for the three days. This convention is one of the biggest in the Eastern Canada/North-eastern US area and drew people from as far away a Florida. While it is mainly focused on the visual media, it does have a fair written media presence. I was fortunate enough to spend Saturday evening with two published authors who had been brought in by Indigo Books for signings. I sold twenty books there and passed out many cards, so I hope to have some more orders through the web site.
There will be more news on book two in the near future, so come on back! :-)

New Spiritual Science Fiction Series
"Inner Voices" is a spiritual science fiction series of novels set about three hundred years in the future in a world radically changed by geological upheavals. In the first novel - "The Awakening" - twelve soldiers from our near future are awakened from a five year stasis sleep to discover that their world is long gone and civilization has reverted to an agrarian state. They also discover that they are to defend a secluded spiritual village from and invading totalitarian empire.
The story follows the spiritual and personal growth of the soldiers as they come to grips with their losses, and the conflicts and growth of the villagers as they attempt to incorporate the almost diametrically opposite philosophies of the soldiers into their own.
